The JI Lil Trojans Athletic Booster Club offers a variety of opportunities to support our local youth football team, the JI Lil Trojans. From donations to volunteering, we work together to ensure our players have the necessary equipment, communication and resources for a successful season. MEET OUR BOOSTER OFFICERS
Suni Mckelvey- President

Suni McKelvey, born and raised on James Island, SC has dedicated her life to uplifting her community and creating opportunities for local youth. A 2001 graduate of James Island High School, Suni was an active and well-rounded student, participating in band, step team, color guard, winter guard, ROTC, track and field, UBASA, FBLA, and the Honors Spanish Society. After high school, she attended both the College of Charleston and Trident Technical College before pausing her studies to embrace motherhood with the birth of her first son, Onterio, in 2003. She and her late husband later welcomed their second son, Xavier, in 2011 and her youngest, DeMarcus, in 2018. From 2004 to 2020, Suni worked at T-Mobile, ultimately stepping away to become a stay-at-home mom and caregiver for her disabled son. Her journey into youth sports leadership began in 2008 when she volunteered as acting President of the Westchester Bengals while her oldest son played football. Her passion for youth development and cheer led her to become the Bengals’ cheer coach in 2016 after assisting for several years with the Roddy White Football Camp. Committed to her personal growth, she returned to school in 2016 and earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business making the Dean's List and graduating cum laude from Ashford University in 2019 In 2021, Suni played a vital role in bringing together all of the recreational youth football teams on James Island to form the JI Lil Trojans, where she now proudly serves as President. She is also the Head Cheer Coach, continuing to inspire and lead young athletes with the same passion and energy that shaped her own youth. Beyond the field and cheer mat, she assists with various administrative duties that help keep the organization running strong. In addition to her leadership in youth sports, Suni is a successful entrepreneur. In 2022, she launched two small businesses: •Priority Solutions, LLC, offering business management services to help clients streamline operations and grow strategically. •Signatures by Suni, a creative brand that brings custom visions to life through personalized shoes, clothing, event décor, and more. As President of the JI Lil Trojans, Suni’s leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in shaping, developing, and growing the organization. She leads with heart, purpose, and a true dedication to serving the youth of James Island. Suni believes deeply in the power of community and being part of the village that helps mold the next generation. Not just as athletes, but as strong, confident, and respectful young people. Her work continues to build a lasting foundation for the future of JI Lil Trojans and the young lives it impacts every day.
Shemika Champion- Vice President

Shemika Champion is a proud James Island native and graduate of James Island Charter High School, Class of 2004. Her passion for community and excellence is deeply rooted in both her educational journey and her professional career. Shemika holds an Associate’s Degree in Arts and Nursing from Trident Technical College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and a Master’s Degree in Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Alabama. Currently, she serves as a Child Abuse Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner at MUSC Children’s Hospital, where she provides expert and compassionate care to some of the Lowcountry’s most vulnerable children. In addition to her full-time medical career, she is also a part-time travel agent and the owner of Champion’s Travel The World travel agency. Shemika is married to Cedric Champion, a dedicated volunteer coach within the JI Lil Trojans youth football program. Cedric also works as a cook at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Home, continuing to serve the James Island community through both service and mentorship. Together, they are raising three sons: Marquisjes (17), a Class of 2025 JICHS graduate and athlete who competed in both football and track & field and will be attending The Citadel in the fall; JR (12) and Avery (7), who both actively participate in the JI Lil Trojans program, including tackle football, 7v7, and camps. Avery, with two seasons of experience as “Coach Avery” under the guidance of Athletic Director Coach Laboy, is already following in his parents’ leadership footsteps. As Vice President of the JI Lil Trojans, Shemika has played an instrumental role in the program’s growth and development. Her leadership, organizational skills, and unwavering commitment to the youth of James Island have helped shape the Lil Trojans into a model of community engagement and athletic excellence. Her work ensures that children have not just a team, but a village supporting them on and off the field.
Niki Grimball- Treasurer

Born and raised in West Ashley, Niki Grimball has proudly called James Island home since 2005, where she lives with her husband, Michael Grimball and their two football-loving sons Michael Jr and William. A dedicated public servant and community advocate, Niki earned her Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation and Community Planning from the College of Charleston, later returning to complete a Master’s in Public Administration. Throughout her career, Niki has served in various impactful roles within Charleston County School District and Charleston County Government. She also made history as the Town Administrator for the Town of James Island. Currently, she serves as a project officer and software administrator for Charleston County, continuing her commitment to public service and operational excellence. Niki’s connection to the JI Lil Trojans runs deep. Her oldest son, Michael, began with the program in its early stages and now plays on the JV team at James Island Charter High School. Her younger son, William, is entering his second season on the 9–10 team. Inspired by the program’s growth and its impact on local youth, Niki felt called to serve in a greater capacity. With her professional background in finance and budgeting, she stepped into the role of Treasurer with JI Lil Trojans in May 2024. When not supporting her boys on the football field or serving her community, Niki and her family can be found enjoying the outdoors fishing, camping, and boating. You can also find Niki cheering on their beloved Clemson Tigers. Her passion for community, family, and service continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of the JI Lil Trojans.
Krystal Porter- Secretary

Krystal Porter is a proud wife to Scott Porter and loving mother to two boys, Rhett (affectionately known as “Diesel”) and Reid. Born and raised in Texas, Krystal is no stranger to discipline and determination. As a competitive female powerlifter throughout high school and college, she earned top honors by placing first in the state for her weight class in the deadlift. In 2006, she graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Krystal went on to spend a decade serving as a critical care and burn trauma nurse at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. There, she provided compassionate care to both pediatric and adult patients with some of the most severe injuries imaginable. Her time at Parkland left a lasting impression, as many of her patients became like family which shows a true testament to her heart for service and healing. In 2016, Krystal and her family relocated to South Carolina to be closer to her husband’s family. She made the decision to pause her nursing career to focus on raising her boys and supporting their growing interests. She currently homeschools Reid, serves as the secretary and an administrator for the JI Lil Trojans organization, and is the ultimate sideline supporter for all things from fishing to football. Krystal also finds strength and purpose through her faith and is an active member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church. Whether it’s on the sidelines cheering, organizing behind the scenes, or guiding her boys at home, Krystal is a true example of dedication, resilience, and servant leadership within the Lil Trojans community. Through every role she takes on, Krystal leads with purpose, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family and the people around her.

At JI Lil Trojans, we are committed to providing our young athletes with a fun and interactive environment where they can learn the fundamentals of football, teamwork and sportsmanship. Our booster team, made up of dedicated parent volunteers, plays an integral role in supporting our players and coaches. Our booster committees include community outreach, concessions, social media management, fundraising/sponsorship, event planner, and more.
