COACH JIM BOYD JI LIL TROJANS 8U SCYFA ASSISTANT COACH Coach Jim Boyd is a passionate and dedicated assistant coach with the JI Lil’ Trojans, bringing years of experience, leadership, and heart to the field. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jim’s foundation was built early, working on his grandfather’s farm where he learned the values of discipline, grit, and resilience—traits that continue to shape his coaching style today. Jim’s first love was baseball. He began playing at age five and competed year-round throughout his youth. His dedication paid off—he earned 63 college scholarship offers and trained with Cincinnati Reds legends such as Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Larkin, and Tom Browning. Jim went on to play college baseball at the University of Charleston (WV) and earned tryouts with both the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. However, after two Tommy John surgeries, his dreams of professional baseball came to an early end—though the journey shaped his character and outlook forever. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Business in 2008, Jim felt a deeper calling and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed boot camp and infantry training, choosing to walk the enlisted path out of deep respect and pride for the uniform. His time in the Marines further instilled in him the values of leadership, integrity, and service. After his service, Jim transitioned into a successful career in sales, where his ability to connect with people and lead by example has remained a cornerstone of his success. In 2021, Jim and his wife Kayleigh—his partner since 2010—moved their family to James Island, returning to her family roots. Together, they’re raising their two children, Karsyn and Ryker, who are active participants in the Lil’ Trojans program and the James Island community. A proud Cincinnati Bearcats family, you can always spot the familiar “C-Paw” somewhere at a game or practice. Jim’s coaching journey began when Ryker joined wrestling, and Jim jumped in headfirst, learning and supporting every step of the way. When Ryker later took an interest in football, Jim followed suit—volunteering with the Lil’ Trojans and quickly becoming an important part of the coaching team. His philosophy is simple: if you work hard and stay committed, anything is possible. He aims to instill that same belief in every young athlete he works with. Off the field, Jim is known for his fun-loving, goofball nature. Whether it’s cracking jokes, pulling a lighthearted prank, or dancing around to get a smile, he brings a spirit of joy and connection to everything he does. He enjoys being outdoors—hunting, riding four-wheelers, boating, and spending time with his kids. Coach Jim Boyd brings a powerful blend of experience, service, and enthusiasm to the Lil’ Trojans. His mission is to help young athletes grow not just as players, but as people—learning discipline, accountability, and the pride that comes from giving your all.
